Young, energetic, full of vision and zeal.

My first employment opportunity after college was a 1-year contract that I jumped on. I thought it was the right way to get my foot in the door, but I didn’t realize at the time that contracts come to an end, whether you are a shining star or a dud. Somehow, I had hoped and convinced myself that it may get extended or it may become permanent.  Considering that this was my first job, I was obviously wet behind the ears. I wasn’t as polished then as I am now, but years of friction are the reason for the honed presence. I certainly wasn’t born this way.

I started off in the nonprofit sector and after quickly proving myself, I jumped to an opportunity in the financial sector for yet another contract role. Fast forward, 10 years later, one contract after another,  I had become a seasoned, polished recruiter with a deep understanding of recruitment, sourcing, boolean searches in any industry be it retail banking, software/hardware in capital markets, telecom, pharmacy and even biostatisticians! About a decade of experience to account for in various sectors all in contracts!  Each opportunity meant a steep learning curve and delivering solid results. I was both pleased and amazed at my recruitment journey, but there was one thing I missed throughout my thirst for knowledge. My continuous gravitation to contract positions would one day catch up with me.

Then came the news of being pigeon holed.

Why would you want a permanent full time job when you are a contractor?  I no longer qualified for full time permanent opportunities. My tenure in recruitment amounted to nothing because I only took contract positions.

But I knew that they were wrong. If they couldn’t see the value in my ambition to learn and grow in any recruitment capacity, then it is the hiring managers who have lost and not I. Brad Sugars always says that jobs are a training ground for you building your own business. Take different jobs to learn how to run your own business. I naturally did that, without any guidance or training. I naturally gravitated to learning all facets of my job, and not just doing the same tasks over and over. I needed the challenge.

This is where I took the plunge

I decided it’s time to start something on my own.  I combined my expertise in recruitment with my partner’s expertise in real estate to give birth to a cutting edge real estate recruitment business. That’s how AGENTC™ was born.   All those turned down opportunities pushed me out from being an employee to becoming an employer.  Today, I’m part of a team that empowers and encourages to own what you do from inception to completion and learn from your mistakes.
