Saskatchewan Labour & Employment Standards 2020

Minimum Wage
  • $11.32 per hour (effective 01 October 2019)

Note: Minimum wage may be indexed in future years to consumer price index (CPI). CPI adjustments may occur before June 30 of each year.

Call-in Pay
  • 3 hours at hourly wage
Overtime Pay:
Time + 1/2
  • Over 8 or 10 hours per day or 40 hours per week

Note 1: Overtime pay to be 1.5 times the regular hourly wage.

Note 2: If a week includes a public holiday, overtime is payable after 32 hours.

Vacation Entitlement
  • After 1 year: 3 weeks
  • After 10 years: 4 weeks
Vacation Pay
  • 3/52 of vacationable earnings
  • After 10 years of employment: 4/52 of vacationable earnings
Statutory Holidays
  • New Year’s Day (January 1)
  • Family Day (Third Monday in February)
  • Good Friday
  • Victoria Day
  • Canada Day (July 1)
  • Saskatchewan Day – First Monday in August
  • Labour Day
  • Thanksgiving Day
  • Remembrance Day (November 11)
  • Christmas Day (December 25)
Statutory Holiday Pay (if worked)
  • Time + 1/2 plus premium pay

Notice of Termination
by Employer
  • Less than 13 weeks of employment: Nil
  • 13 weeks – 1 year of employment: 1 week
  • 1 – 3 years of employment: 2 weeks
  • 3 – 5 years of employment: 4 weeks
  • 5 – 10 years of employment: 6 weeks
  • 10 years of employment and over: 8 weeks

Note: When terminating in groups of 10 or more, group termination rules may apply.

Maternity or Pregnancy Leave
  • 19weeks, if employed at least 13 weeks, same if adoption

Note: Most jurisdictions require leaves to be taken within a specified period. Check with the applicable employment/labour standards office.

Parental Leave (available to either parent)
  • 59 or (63 weeks if maternity leave not taken), if employed at least 13 weeks

Bereavement
  • 5 days, if employed at least 13 weeks.
Compassionate/ Family Care/ Responsibility
  • 28 weeks
Sick
  • no minimum standard applies but 26 weeks for donating an organ, if employed at least 13 weeks
Voting
  • 3 hours
Citizenship Ceremony
  • 1 day, if employed at least 13 weeks.
Reservist’s Leave
  • Yes, if employed at least 13 weeks.

Note: Leave for Reservists – Employees who are members of the Canadian Forces Reserves and deployed for active service are entitled to a job-protected unpaid leave. Eligibility requirements and period of leave varies-consult applicable employment/labour standards information.

Critical Illness of a Child Leave
  • 37 weeks

Note: If employed at least 13 weeks.

Death or Disappearance of a Child Leave
  • 104 weeks
