Yukon Labour & Employment Standards 2020

Minimum Wage
  • $12.71 per hour (effective 01 April 2019)

Note: Future increases as per CPI each April 1st

Call-in Pay
  • 2 hours at regular or overtime wage
Overtime Pay:
Time + 1/2
  • Over 8 hours per day or 40 hours per week

Note: Overtime pay to be 1.5 times the regular hourly wage.

Vacation Entitlement
  • After 1 year: 2 weeks
Vacation Pay
  • 4% of vacationable earnings
Statutory Holidays
  • New Year’s Day (January 1)
  • Good Friday
  • Victoria Day
  • National Aboriginal Day
  • Canada Day (July 1)
  • Discovery Day (Third Monday in August)
  • Labour Day
  • Thanksgiving Day
  • Remembrance Day (November 11)
  • Christmas Day (December 25)
Statutory Holiday Pay (if worked)
  • Time + 1/2 plus regular pay OR regular pay plus alternate day

Note: An employee who works less than the standard hours or who works irregular hours must be paid general holiday pay of 10% of the wages (excluding vacation pay) earned for the hours worked in the 2 calendar weeks immediately prior to the week in which the holiday falls. This would include any overtime earned during that period.

Notice of Termination
by Employer
  • Less than 6 months of employment: Nil
  • 6 months – 1 year of employment: 1 wk
  • 1 – 3 years of employment: 2 wks
  • After 3 years of employment: 1 week per year to a maximum of 8 weeks

Note: When terminating in groups of 25 or more, group termination rules may apply.

Maternity or Pregnancy Leave
  • 17 weeks after 12 months
Parental Leave (available to either parent)
  • 37 weeks after 12 months

Note: Most jurisdictions require leaves to be taken within a specified period. Check with the applicable employment/labour standards office.

Bereavement
  • 1 week
Compassionate/ Family Care/ Responsibility
  • 8 weeks
Sick
  • 1-12 days

Note: One day’s leave without pay for every month of employment, up to 12 days less number of days the employee is previously absent due to illness or injury. The employer may request doctor’s certificate as condition of entitlement.

Voting
  • 4 hours
Reservist’s Leave
  • Yes

Note: Leave for Reservists – Employees who are members of the Canadian Forces Reserves and deployed for active service are entitled to a job-protected unpaid leave. Eligibility requirements and period of leave varies-consult applicable employment/labour standards information.

Critical Illness of a Child Leave
  • 37 weeks

Note: If employed at least 6 months.

Death or Disappearance of a Child Leave
  • 104 weeks for death, 52 weeks for disappearance
