Since you can list a property and sell it, you think you can post a job opening and fill it; but is that quite true?
As a seasoned realtor, you’re selling everywhere you go, all the time. You’re always on the lookout to build what begins as a casual relationship into fruitful, closed deals. But wait, before you actually start selling a property, it must be listed with the right measurements, details and everything else that goes with it. You know your job and processes a lot better than I do.
But let me guess: you assume that the same formula as you would use to develop a listing would apply to advertising online for the job opening you’re hiring for, right? You couldn’t be further from the truth if you moved to the end other end of the earth.
What does free online job advertising get you?
Advertising online whether it be on Indeed, Workopolis, Monster or Kijiji gets you exactly what you put in. In other words, NOTHING. Zero. Zilch. Nada. Well, that’s not entirely true. You DO get really bad quality resumes devoid of actual skills requested that you end up taking up most of your day sifting through. Do you sift through unqualified leads in real estate? Probably not. So why do it when looking to fill a roll that will be public facing and representing your company, indeed representing YOU? Posting and hoping that qualified candidates will apply is like sprinkling vinegar on vines hoping that wine will sprout: fruitless.
What kind of recruiting DOES work?
Recruiting real estate assistants is not as simple as posting and praying on your rosary beads. There is more to it. It’s an art. A dance. A tango. It’s a form of courtship that includes both parties: one being in the dominant position of the leader who entices the other to follow suit.
Hey wait a minute, that sounds a lot like bringing a buyer agent onto your team! How many phone calls did you make to bring on that buyer agent? How many lunches did you spring for? How much time was spent? Yes, you read that right. It’s a courtship that requires days, hours, and countless back and forth. Ah yes, we make it look as smooth as swans gliding on water when it’s really all about the feet paddling away madly, beneath the surface. Actually, most days, it is more like putting a rope around a bucking wild mustang’s neck to wrangle it in, but that’s another story.
Recruiting is an art
Like I said before, if recruitment were easy, you would not need us. The whole profession of recruitment exists because it is painstaking to find the right combination of skills and personality, embodied in one person, who will fit and possibly exceed your job description expectations.
Headhunting has never been easy . . . ever! We charge what we do because we know how much time it takes to close a deal on both ends. It’s not only about getting you to sign a contract but getting your future employee to sign up with you. There is a lot of back and forth in between as well, which entails smoothing out finer details.
At the end of the day, the value is there only if you’re super busy or want to grow your team properly. If you’re not, then you can afford to make mistakes, the wrong hire, lose some more money than what you would pay us and most importantly lose TIME hiring the wrong people and then, well… that’s when you call GHOSTBUSTERS! No, no, I mean AGENTC!
